IPC surprise

At BITS-Pilani, the websites are getting blocked again. But to our relief, the internet speed and the download speed is quite good. The strange methods of blocking the sites create strange scenarios.

For example,
Some sites like newjumbo could be opened from Bhagirath Bhavan, but not from Vishwakarma Bhavan even though the same Lan connections run through the two bhavans.
The word 'girl' is blocked literally everywhere in your web browser. Any website address which has this word in it cannot be opened. You try to google search this word and still the IPC catches you and tells that you are a bad boy. Mind well, the restriction is only for bad 'Boys'. This word can be explored easily and freely by the the female deities who reside behind the secluded walls of Meera Bhavan.
Further, an elaborate research reveals that a BITSian cannot have search results for any p* word using the search box in firefox. But he can easily open Google , enter the search key and have lots of fun. (Go try yourself, am not giving any sample result.)

The problem began for me when my pidgin could not connect to the server and fainted very soon blaming a SSL connection failure. In fact this was the problem with every other IM which connected to mail.google.com via port 443. But the reason was vivid clear when I tried to open some site and got the following message.

"Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is incorrect.
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO OPEN SOME USEFUL SITE ON PORT 443, DROP MAIL TO BELOW ADDRESS:"

Impatient enough to wait and watch, I sent a mail to the administrator and interestingly enough, the IM's were working fine within half an hour. A new surprise to add to the series of pleasant surprises that IPC has been throwing at us in 2-2. IPC was actually quick to take a good action.

Coming to 1st April, let me report that the potential april fools were fooled in BITS-Pilani on 31st March. Some of them even took the pains of running to the notice boards wetting themselves all over in the rains. (Refer, Rachit )
Kudos and bumps to Shankar back (10p) wing, where this drama began. I spent a great night laughing at the guys who got screwed and the rains were kind enough to soothen the pains of truckloads of ghotting that were to prevail during the remaining night.

Coming tonight:- Mr.X got fooled by Ms.K. Watch out.
